  • ProCon.org:   Provides well-sourced pro, con, and related research on more than 50 controversial issues.  Issues covered change, so check under "Issues We Cover" for your topic.
  • Council on Foreign Relations: (an independent, nonpartisan membership organization, think tank, and publisher.) Primary source documents from 1689 - present.  Also provides analysis and context on international events and trends.  We subscribe to Foreign Affairs, the journal published by the CFR.
  • U.S. Department of State:   Handles foreign affairs for the U.S. government. Main purpose is to promote American foreign policy worldwide.  Go to A-Z list of countries and other areas, then to U.S. Bilateral Relations Fact Sheets, etc.

  • CIA World Factbook:  Information on history, people, government, economy, geography, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues for 267 world entities.  Good background information.
  • Library of Congress:   The largest library in the world, with millions of books, recordings, photographs, newspapers, maps, and manuscripts.

  • National Archives and Records Administration (NARA):  Preserves and documents government and historical records.

  • Wikipedia and Simple.Wikipedia.org:Open source online encyclopedia.  Can not be used for citations.  Good links to authoritative sources provided at end of articles.

  •  Google.  site: .gov  OR site: .edu and your topic. In advanced search, limit by date.  For example, to search the cuba embargo, google site: .gov cuba embargo.  This will limit your search to mostly government sites (or education sites if you use site: .edu.) Add 2018 to get the most up-to-date articles.
  • New York Times:  Highly regarded daily newspaper.  Free articles from 1851-1922 and 1987-2017.
  • The Economist:  Weekly news and international affairs.  British.
