Our district provides comprehensive assessment guidelines categorized by grade level. To view the general testing timeline, please visit the District Assessment Page. For specific dates and times at LHS, please refer to our Official School Calendar.

SBA at a Glance

The Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) measures student proficiency in ELA and Math based on state standards.

  • Who: Grades 3–8 and 10 (Graduation Pathway requirement).

  • Format: Online, untimed, and adaptive to each student’s skill level.

  • Components: Multiple-choice questions and a real-world Performance Task.

  • Results: Released in early fall via ParentSquare and Qmlativ.

  • Accommodations: Alternate assessments (WA-AIM) are available for qualifying students.

WCAS at a Glance

The Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS) measures proficiency in state science standards (NGSS).

  • Who: Grades 5, 8, and 11.

  • Format: Online and untimed.

  • Graduation: Required participation for 11th graders; high scores may assist with science credit retrieval.

  • Results: Released in early fall via ParentSquare and Qmlativ.

WIDA at a Glance

WIDA assessments measure English language proficiency in Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking for students receiving ELD services.

  • Who: Multilingual learners in grades K–12.

  • Screener: Used upon initial enrollment to determine eligibility for ELD services.

  • Annual ACCESS: An online assessment to measure progress and determine continued program eligibility.

  • Alternate ACCESS: A paper-based version for qualifying students with significant cognitive disabilities.

  • Format: Evaluates four domains: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking.

AP at a Glance

The Advanced Placement (AP) Program offers college-level coursework and standardized exams for high school students.

  • Who: Students ready for the challenge of a rigorous, college-level curriculum.

  • Exams: Administered annually in May and scored on a 1–5 scale.

  • Prerequisite: Students must be enrolled in the corresponding AP course to register for the exam.

  • Registration for Exams: Payment is due in October/November. Payments received after November will incur an additional $40 late fee. Registration & Payments closes in March. 

  • Benefits: Potential to earn college credit (typically with scores of 3+) and stand out in the college admissions process.

  • Curriculum: Courses are modeled after introductory college classes across seven subject categories.

  • Requirements: While open to all prepared students, some specific AP courses may have prerequisites. Discuss with your counselor your education plan.
